New York Times: Learning Online May Be Better

computer The New York Times recently reported on the results of a 12-year study by SRI International (formerly the Stanford Research Institute) that examined the effectiveness of online versus traditional teaching methods.

Conducted in some K-12 settings, but mainly in college and adult continuing education-programs from 1996 to 2008, “the analysis for the Education Department found that, on average, students doing some or all of the course online would rank in the 59th percentile in tested performance, compared with the average classroom student scoring in the 50th percentile.”
